BEHIND THE PRESERVATION OF THE BIBLE!
During the Dark Ages, superstition and ignorance controlled the minds of the masses. A few brave men obeyed God and brought the Scriptures to the world.
• John Wycliffe, the brilliant 14th century Oxford scholar, translated the Bible from Latin into English in order to enlighten the masses oppressed through ignorance. His work was so despised by the established church, that Pope Martin V ordered Wycliffe's bones to be dug up and burned forty years after his death.
• Martin Luther was one of the few who challenged church authority in the 16th century and lived to tell the tale. In exposing the folly of indulgences (paying money to the church in order to obtain favor with God), he revealed what had always been written in Scripture, that justification was through faith and faith alone.
• William Tyndale was not spared like his friend Luther. Tyndale spent the last 500 days of his life in a cold castle dungeon. He was then tied to a stake, strangled, and burned. His crime?... printing Bibles in the English language!

Customer Reviews:
"Where did the Christian Bible come from? I found this particularly interesting. Makes me wonder what the chances are, that what's in the bible has any bearing on actual happenings considering the first compilation of texts were put together over 300 years AD. It would be interesting to try and account for something that happened 300 years ago even today. I think history as recorded is only the one the historian wants to tell. (i.e. The US Military's approved media edition of the Iraq invasion...slightly different to the Vietnam edition) 2000 years of editing become a pretty serious game of 'whispers.' It's worth the purchase price."

"The best documentary ever produced on the history of the Bible! This DVD is an hour-long presentation on the history of the English Bible. The viewer will meet most of the historical figures responsible for bringing us the Bible as we know and love it today: Wycliffe, Hus, Gutenberg, Colet, Erasmus, Tyndale, Luther and so on. He will see some of the locations important to the history of the Bible, such as the Wittenberg door and Martin Luther's study. He will learn about the earliest English translations, in the Old World and in the New. There are many amazing facts worked into the presentation. Dr. Lampe shows a scroll that is 1000 years old, and tells the viewer that it is word-for-word the
same as the text of the Dead Sea Scrolls that were written a full millennium before. Being reminded of the blood that was shed to bring the Bible to common folk like myself, makes me consider just how flippantly I treat the Scriptures. Do I really have a sense of how privileged I am to have not just one Bible but an entire stack of them in many outstanding translations? And do I thank God for the faithful men and women who gave their lives that I can have unlimited access to His Word? At Greatsite.com the advertisement for this video says, "Hundreds of Church Sunday School classes and Christian home-schoolers use it as part of their curriculum." I would agree that this presentation would be useful for
those purposes. It would make a valuable addition to a church, school or even public library. It would also make a great gift. And of course it is also a valuable addition to a personal library. I very much enjoyed this video and am sure to watch it again. I recommend it."

"Excellent! What a needed documentary! If you are a Christian and don't know the history behind how we got the Bible, I highly recommend you see this DVD. The history is fascinating and well-researched."

"This DVD is a very interesting program linking Tyndale, Wycliffe and Luther. Shows the scenery of the places where they worked and lived. The main point in today's world where scripture is ignored, the program brought out the point that people paid with their lives to find out what the scriptures taught. What was punishable for death in knowing the Bible, today we possess the same ignorance through laziness."

"Great Bible History! This one-hour documentary took me on a fascinating journey through time. Since it was shot all across Europe, it showed all the important places of Christian history. I learned how God's Word was originally scribed, discovered how the Word was preserved through the 1,000 year period of the Dark and Middle Ages, and also learned the truth about the misunderstood books called "Apocrypha" that were printed in every Protestant Christian's Bible until 1885. I found the information about John Wycliffe, Martin Luther and William Tyndale fascinating. This video brought together an understanding of how the King James version developed. It was an enlightening and captivating way to see how we got the Bible and how and how God has preserved His Word for thousands of years."
