What
is a moral person to do in a time of savage immorality?
That question
tormented Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German clergyman of great distinction
who actively opposed Hitler and the Nazis. His convictions cost him his
life. The Nazis hanged him on April 9, 1945, less than a month before
the end of the war.
Bonhoeffer's last years, his participation in the
German resistance and his moral struggle are dramatized in this film.
More than just a biographical portrait, Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace
sheds light on the little-known efforts of the German resistance. It brings
to a wide audience the heroic rebellion of Bonhoeffer, a highly regarded
Lutheran minister who could have kept his peace and saved his life on
several occasions but instead paid the ultimate price for his beliefs.
Customer Reviews:
"Insightful well done account of Bonhoeffer's life: thinking, philosophy and personal relationships. Well worth viewing, probably the best representation of the sequence and reasoning that led him to his philosophy, his practical views of Christian living, integrity of relationships and commitment to principles and people."
(P. L. - Rochester, NY)
"I am not a history buff or particularly interested in religious theology, but I thoroughly enjoyed this film and learned a lot from it. My husband who is a history lover and knew much of the history during this time period appreciated the life on Bonhoeffer and learned some things he didn't know about the government and daily life in Germany at the time. This film is well worth watching."
(L. M. - Dallas, TX)
"Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace won the Best Film Award at the Monte Carlo Television Festival in 2000. I highly recommend this movie."
(B. W. - USA)
"This film portrays well the sequence of events that led this particular disciple to pay the full price. This is not a slick Hollywood production; it is more a reenactment of a biography by actors who are creditable. Nevertheless there are some unforgettable scenes. The movie is quite worthwhile for one who wants to learn more about Bonhoeffer."
(L. D. - Raleigh, NC)
"This is a must see! An understated, intelligent performance from Ulrich Tukur, along with a suspenseful script, help make for a rewarding evening in front of the “boob tube.” Not yet rated, the subject matter may be disturbing for little ones, but for teens and adults, it is both a reminder of the evil that existed during WWII, and a prodding for men and women of faith to take a stand against Satan’s malevolent influence on today’s world."
